Aurora and Volcanic Light Pillar
Description
As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day the red glow in the sky is not a sunset or a sunrise, and not citylight, but the volcanic eruption of Holuhraun situated at one hundred kilometers from Jokulsarlon lagoon in the foreground. Ice clouds have created a pillar of light. Here is a timelapse video with several views from the distant eruption.
