Almond Blossoms Herald the Arrival of Spring

From the photographer: “Nowruz, or spring equinox, Iranians celebrate this day as the first day of the new year. While the choice of this day is an astronomical phenomenon. In addition to the orbit of the sun, the earth also rotates around an imaginary axis that passes through its poles. This hypothetical axis has a deviation of 23.5 degrees compared to the plane of the solar system.

This feature, in addition to the constant extension of this axis to one side and of course the rotation of the earth around the sun, causes the seasons. At the March equinox, the sun shines at an angle of 90 degrees to the Earth’s equator, and its radiation is inclined to higher and lower latitudes.

Vernal equinox marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of autumn in the southern hemisphere. At this time, the angle of both hemispheres is equal to the sun and therefore they receive sunlight in the same way. Exactly when we in the Northern Hemisphere consider it the vernal equinox.
