Alaska Conjunction

The crescent Moon joins the brightest planets of the night sky, Venus and Jupiter, in this image from Alaska. As noted by the photographer “perhaps I was too far north to even view this conjunction. But there it was just above the southern horizon, now chasing the already set sun. The bulge on the
horizon towards the right 155 miles (250 km) away is Denali, or Mt. McKinley, North America’s highest mountain. Despite the totally clear evening, the monster of the mountain makes it own clouds, and the true shape of the mountain is hidden from view, as the mountain’s clouds are
silhouetted against the sunset glow. It was -15 F (-28 C) for this shot, as the clear skies bring cold temperatures here in the winter.”
