Description

From the photographer: “This iconic tree on the North Crater Flow trail at Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho apparently lived to be 1350 years old. It is surrounded by lava from an eruption about 2 thousand years ago that flowed out of the North Crater which the Milky Way disappears behind on the right side of the photo.” The red glow of light pollution from Idaho Falls can be seen reflecting off clouds in the lower left, while the green glow of airglow bands (natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere) is captured across the view.”
