Photo Report: TWAN in the Second Life


2009 July 8: TWAN features prominently in Second Life as a part of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 activities in the virtual world. The Second Life (SL) is a virtual 3-D multi-user world which is accessible via the Internet. The global users (currently over a dozen million) or the “residents” can explore, meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another, or travel throughout the world. In the Second life you can be some new in a totality different place. The TWAN-SL exhibition, organized by instructional technology specialist Adrienne J. Gauthier, is located on
Astronomy 2009 Island, just next door to MICA’s StellaNova island. It is near to other science and technology related islands, including neighboring islands of NASA, JPL, and other related organizations. The TWAN “outdoor” exhibition is located in a spiral galaxy green area accompanied by exhibition of another IYA2009 project, From Earth to the Universe. Other neighbors are sections for astrophotography section, Dark Sky Awareness, Astronomy Podcasts, Space Art, and the Lord Rosse giant telescope.
