Photo Report: Brazil Welcomes TWAN

The second Astronomy & Astronautic International Meeting in Campos – Rio de Janeiro, was the starting point for TWAN exhibitions in Brazil. The 4 day program (17-20 April 2009) was led by Dr. Marcelo Souza, the coordinator for Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) in Latin America and TWAN events in Brazil. Besides Brazilian astronomers, lecturers from United States, Netherlands, Iran, India, Bolivia, and Uruguay presented at the meeting, including the first female private space traveler Anousheh Ansari, the Brazilian astronaut Marcos Pontes, and the AWB president Mike Simmons. The meeting hosted a TWAN presentation and a night sky photography workshop held by TWAN director Babak Tafreshi. The TWAN exhibition in Campos continued in the culture palace of the city and will travel to various education and art venues in the region through the International Year of Astronomy 2009. Two of the possible future venues are the famous contemporary art museum in Niteroi and Brazil National Observatory in Rio de Janeiro.
