Venus, Aurora and the Southern Milky Way

From the photographer: “What was originally a composition to catch Comet A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) setting over the mountains, quickly turned into a Milky Way arch panorama. At first I thought there was very strong red airglow, but as I began to photograph the southern horizon, I realized it was aurora. The bright point of light in the center of the image is the planet Venus, shining with an apparent magnitude of almost -4. The core of the milky way is slowly being washed away by the zodiacal light, and over the next month will be lost to the suns glare.”
