Description

A bright meteor (fire ball) in a long exposure photograph from over Mount Maydanak in Uzbekistan, the site for Maydanak observatory which is located 120 km southward of Samarkand at a height of 2700 m above sea level. By number of clear days this area is among the world best observing sites. As noted by the photographer and astronomer “In the valley down below lights of nearby villages can be seen. In the time of Soviet Union the inhabitants were forced to live down in the valleys with very hot summers which resulted in many deaths. In 1980s the people were allowed to return back to their high altitude living place. They are poor but happy people with simple needs, beautiful nature and starry sky above them which is crystal clear on the horizon as it is at zenith”.
