Description

From the photographer: “These are Transient Luminous Events or can also be referred to as Upper Atmospheric Lightning. This is a rare type of lightning that appears above powerful thunderstorms and is seldom seen with the naked eye because they happen so quickly. The saucer shaped one to the far left of the image is a Sprite-Halo event and the other 3 are partial Gigantic Jet lightning events. All 4 events occurred within a 1 hour period and were well placed for me to stack them. These events were photographed when Tropical Storm Harvey was just south of Puerto Rico on Aug 19, 2017.”

Technical details: This is a photo-composite containing 4 separate photos that I stacked in Photoshop. Each photo was taken with a Full spectrum Canon T3 camera with a 50mm lens at F/1.8 for 1.3 seconds and ISO of 6400.
