Red Sprites

From the photographer: “This is a single Upper-atmospheric lightning or ionospheric lightning also known as TLE, with big red sprites and one of the numerous I managed to capture from the eastern suburbs of Athens, Greece, above the thunderstorms in the southeast Aegean Sea, at a distance of 250-400km away, during the night of December 4, 2021. As you can see, the red sprites’ enormous size (large carrot sprites with huge downward tendrils) and intensity produced an imposing red reflection on the sea.”
