Description

The path of sun from sunrise to sunset during the northern hemisphere winter solstice day (December 21) when the sun make its shortest path across the sky. The scene is captured above Teide Observatory in Tenerife, Canary Islands. The structure in teh foreground is the observatory Solar Laboratory, a building known as the Pyramid. The photographer has used a digital SLR camera and made a series of images in time-lapse mode. The spikes (made by longer exposures) mark the sunrise, noon, and sunset moments.
