Northern stars and a streaking meteor as seen from a bizarre natural wonder of Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf. The location is known as the Valley of Stars to locals. Move the slider on the image to see the con and labels in the sky. Polaris, the North Star, is right above the rock formations in the middle. The image is made during the annual Quadrantid Meteor Shower (peaks on January 4/5).
