Starry Lagoon
Description
From the photographer: “I took this long exposure on last 12 March, 2010, in the Albufeira Lagoon (Lagoa de Albufeira), a quiet place, side by side with the Atlantic Ocean, about 25 Km from Lisbon, Portugal. In the image we can enjoy the path of many stars like Procyon, Aldebaran, M45 (the Pleiades), Sirius, Betelgeuse, Rigel, and even the Orion Nebula (M42). What I highlight in the image are the colors of the star tracks reflected in the water of the Lagoon.
With the slight movement of water the trail of the brightest stars (like Sirius) stayed blurred, producing more saturated colors, and showing us the true color (type and temperature) of each star. The white blue stars, like Sirius, are hotter and can have temperatures about 25,000 degrees K. Behind the sandbank and facing southwest on the Horizon is the Ocean Atlantic.” – © Miguel Claro
