Sky Above the Gateway of India

This all-sky view through a fisheye lens has captured star trails over the bustling city of Mumbai, India. Known as the Gateway of India, the monument on the left is a major waterfront tourist destination and a popular gathering spot for locals at the coast of the Arabian Sea. From the photographer: “I took this image after midnight when up shining floodlights and lights around the British Raj Monument are shut off for the rest of the night. On the other side of the image are the old & new Taj Mahal Palace hotel buildings (towards the northwest). There is a statue of Shivaji towards the north and a statue of Swami Vivekanand towards the east. The bright lights towards the west belong to the Radio Club. In the Sky you can see the Summer Triangle of Vega, Altair and Deneb towards the east. The other bright stars are Arcturus, Spica as well as planet Saturn. Plenty of pre-monsoon clouds were drifting across the sky during the exposure.”
