Red Sprites Under a Starry Sky (composite)

From the photographer: “These red sprites were photographed in the skies over Puerto Rico when Hurricane Matthew was a powerful category 5 storm in the Caribbean. The faint ripples in the sky above the sprites are known as Mesospheric Gravity Waves and they were generated by the intense convection of the thunderstorms. Nasa and NOAA were also able to capture these Gravity Waves, from above, using their VIIRS satellite.”

Technical details: A photo-composite containing 5 separate photos that I stacked in Photoshop. I used a full spectrum Canon T3 camera with a 50mm lens at F/1.8 for 1 sec at iso 6400.
