Description

In a starry night of la Palma, Canary islands, telescopes at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory at 2400 meters above see level are exploring the cosmos. There are about a dozen major telescopes on this excellent observing site including the 3.6 meter TNG (Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, belongs to Italy) appeared in this image. The yellow-orange glow at the horizon is airglow, the faint natural glow of the Earth upper atmosphere, only appears at dark locations. Click on the second photo to see a closer image of the telescope and the night sky where a streaking meteor appears above the observatory.
