Description

From the photographer: “The image was shot near the town Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland, where the mountain Kirkjufell rises 463m from the ocean and is iconic for the village. It was a quiet night with low aurora display so it was easy to see the milky way and our closest neighbor Andromeda galaxy above the mountain. Right of the mountain top, in the heart of the constellation Cygnus, we can spot the the North America nebula which is an emission nebula close to the star Deneb. It was a low tide so I was able to walk down the beach to include in the foreground the beautiful ripples the ocean left behind in the sand.”

Technical details: Single 13 sec exposure, Nikon d810a, 24mm, ISO6400, f-2.8
