Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds Above Moais de Tara Rock

A single exposure photo of the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds above one of the spectacular Moais de Tara rock formations in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. The volcanic formations are also called Los Monjes de la Pacana (“Pacana Monks” as they are near the Pacana Hills) and lie at an altitude of around 4300m / 14,100ft above San Pedro de Atacama near the Argentina border. The illumination is from the last quarter moon which had recently risen.
