Description

Elafonisos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece and it has been designated as a Site of Community Importance of the NATURA 2000. The area is characterized by a variety of habitat types, most of which are quite well preserved (typical sandy and halophytic floral, cedar compositions in dunes, tall shrubs and rocks) that are found in a variety of plant communities. The area is very important for migratory birds both as a breeding ground and as an intermediate resting place. These two images portray the milky way during the astronomical twilight and the night above the dunes. Both of the images were taken just near the wooden path consciously so as not to touch this natural beauty.
