Description

From the photographer: “The night scene of Siculiana, illuminated by the warm lights of the buildings, blends harmoniously with the majestic presence of the sickle moon, only 2.7 per cent illuminated. The village is enveloped in a magical and silent atmosphere, with the outline of its historic architecture silhouetted against the dark sky and the hill behind. Dominating the scene is the dome of the Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso, which emerges imposingly among the golden lights of the town.

The crescent moon adds a touch of mystery and charm, as if silently watching over the town. In the image, one can distinguish both the area directly illuminated by the Sun – the bright sickle – and the part visible thanks to the ashen light, the faint glow reflected from the Earth.

The tones of the Moon are tinged with red, orange and yellow, while the sky takes on a burnished hue, brightened by the last flashes of twilight. The moonlight, the sky and the golden illumination of the buildings merge in a delicate chromatic balance, rendering a vision suspended between mystery and harmony.”
