Full Moon and the Belt of Venus
Description
From the photographer: “Just after sunset on 18 December, the Full Moon rises above the ‘Belt of Venus’. The latter is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs on the opposite side of the sunset/sunrise, and it’s caused by the backscattering of the reddened sunlight of the sunset. The dark part is the shadow cast by the earth on our atmosphere still hit by the sun’s rays, which is coloured pink/purple.”
