Description

Autumn constellations of Perseus and Cassiopeia with the elegant Double Star Cluster shine above a sea of clouds and a cluster of observatories. The image is photographed at the 2400 meter Roque de los Muchachos observatory in La Palma, one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off Africa and a place for number of the world-leading observatories. From left to right the four more obvious telescopes are the 2.5 m Nordic Optical Telescope, the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope, the half a meter Dutch Open Telescope (solar), and the one meter Swedish Solar Telescope which currently has the world’s sharpest eye of its kind.
