Description

From the photographer: “There is a great chance of observing the aurora borealis around the equinox. This is due to the “Russel-McPherron effect”. At this time of year, cracks form in Earth’s magnetic field. Even a weak stream of solar wind can penetrate to spark a good display.

On the day of the equinox, my friend and I went to try our luck in the Malá Fatra National Park on the Kľak hill (1351m) in Slovakia. The 2-hour hike through the bear zone was worth it because in the evening the aurora borealis really appeared even at very weak values. The double cross as the national emblem, two planets above it, Jupiter and Mars together with whole winter hexagon created a beautiful scenery of the Slovak landscape.”
