Description

From the photographer: “The comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-Atlas is finally surprising even northern hemisphere sky lovers. It discreetly appears shortly after sunset, making itself visible to both the camera and the naked eye.
This image was taken in the countryside of Palazzolo Acredide, a town belonging to the Unesco sites as one of the most beautiful expressions of Sicilian Baroque.

Thanks to particularly clear atmospheric conditions, it was exciting to watch the colours change during sunset: from orange to yellow, from green to the deep blue of twilight. And it is there, in the turquoise blue, between Venus and Acturus, that comet Atlas makes its appearance, showing its vast and brilliant tail in the sky.

It is not only clothed in a white cloak. A faint anti-tail begins to show itself a little lower than the crown. An ecstasy of colours and emotions to which is associated the scent of honey coming from the beehives placed in the ground not far from the shooting location. A perfect synesthesia for the sweet comet of Sicilian sunsets.
