Description

Comet Lovejoy (C/2013 R1) is photographed over Himalayan villages in Uttarakhand, northern India. The Himalaya range appears faintly in the left. A streaking meteor is also captured in this lucky image. Comets that pass close to the Earth orbit are the parent bodies of most meteors. The green cast in the sky is caused by airglow; natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere. Click on the second photo to see a picture of the TWAN photographer’s annual sky photography workshop at this location.
