Description

The night sky just after a vivid winter sunset at Convict Lake, an alpine lake nestled in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. With its jagged, snow-covered slopes, Mt. Morrison towers behind the lake at 12,241 ft. This glacial lake gets its name from a unique, yet morbid historical event. In 1871, a group of convicted criminals escaped a Nevada prison and fled to California, where they hid near this lake and were subsequently captured after a violent shootout.

This is absolutely amazing! I visited Convict Lake a little while back and this picture captures the night sky, lake, and landscape beautifully! Great shot.
