Description

From dark and transparent locations such as high altitude slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa the Milky Way appears stunningly beautiful in the starry sky, while there is no sign of it in urban skies. Specially when the Milky Way is seen from the southern hemisphere it looks more eye-catching because its central bulge (the brightest region) reaches overhead. Kilimanjaro is an inactive volcano and the highest mountain in Africa located near the northern border of Tanzania with Kenya. The summit of Kibo (5893 m) is visible in the middle of this image.
