Description

On this peaceful winter night a small bridge in Campinho region of Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve in Portugal seems to indicate the path to Andromeda Galaxy, some 2.5 million light years away! The Galaxy, also visible to naked eye, is a little elongated cloud in the center. High above, star clusters and diffuse red/violet colors are shinning and spread in the winter sky, coming from Nebulae such as Orion, California, Rosette, Barnard´s Loop, Heart & Soul and other emission nebulae. At left in the direction of Pleiades star cluster, a faint white-blue light is visible known as the Zodiacal Light.
