2008 Total Solar Eclipse in China

From the photographer: “On 01. August 2008 a total solar eclipse showed up within a flat angle of ca. 15 degress above the horizon over the Gobi desert northeast of the city of Jinta, provice Gansu in China. The moon has covered the sun completely, day has become night. The planets Mercury and Venus are visible at the upper left above the eclipsed sun. At the horizon twilight comes in from areas where there is still day and where the solar eclipse is only partial. Around the dark moon the atmosphere of the sun, the corona, has become impressively visible. It reaches a multiple of the diameter of the sun and stands on Western skies above a significant group of desert hills.”
