Texas Star Party

Overlooking the observing field at the Texas Star Party near Fort Davis, Texas. The event is one of the largest annual star parties in the United States. The red lights of astronomers’ flashlights from the 6.5 hours exposure almost looks likes molten lava seeping out of the field.

There were a few intermittent clouds that moved through, thus the small breaks in the star trails. There is not even a single airplane trail through the 6.5 hour photo. The area is a no-fly zone due to the McDonald Observatory located nearby. The photographer used a Nikon F2 film camera and 50mm lens at f5.6 and Fuji Provia 100 slide film for this image.
