Tenerife Meteor Rain
Description
A photo composite of multiple exposures. The Geminid meteor shower is one of the best annual sky shows. The above image is a composite result of wide-angle photo sequence taken during the highest activity of the shower in the predawn hour of December 14, 2013. The frames with meteors are stacked to show the activity and the radiant of the shower (upper right, in Gemini). Jupiter is the bright object in Gemini at top right. The red cloud at the left side horizon is the Great Carina Nebula, an iconic southern sky object that rises only a degree above the southern horizon from this latitude. In the foreground is the Teide Observatory on the high slopes of Mount Teide, Tenerife, Canary islands.
