Island Sky

The Milky Way appears over Caldera de Taburiente, La Palma, Canary Islands. The pale orange-red cast in the left side sky is airglow; natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere. Light of the sea-side town Tazacorte appears in the middle under the clouds. On the far left the horizon glow is from the neighboring larger island of Tenerife formed by the prominent Teide volcano. The image is made during an annual TWAN international night sky photography workshop known as the Astromaster La Palma.
