Description

The glory of the southern sky as photographed in the Australian outback, above the Kata Tjuta National Park where Uluru or the Ayers Rock is located. The most notable object in the view is the Great Carina Nebula. Although it is four times as large and even brighter than the famous Orion Nebula, it is much less well known, due to its location far in the southern celestial hemisphere. To its upper right is a star cluster filled with young blue stars, known as the Southern Pleiades. Move the slider on the image to see labels for all objects in the view.
