Blue Moon
Description
From the photographer: “In 2024, four full moons occur within one season. This is relatively rare and only occurs every 2-3 years. This year it will happen in summer, and the third full moon in this sequence will be called the Blue Moon. The fourth full moon in summer will be on 18 September, three days before the start of autumn. On 19 August 2024, the full moon rose over the lighthouse of the small island of Greifswalder Oie, 14.9 km away, as seen from the eastern beach of the island of Rügen. As it rose, the moon actually looked a little blue because its light was strongly dimmed by thick layers of haze on the horizon (image 2). A short time later, it shone deep orange in the south-east at the blue hour. A beautiful sight.”
