Milky Way Road

There are not many locations left on this planet where you can still experience a dark sky like this. Atacama Desert of Chile is one of the driest areas of the planet. As added by the photographer “Walking on the desert between the scattered stones and boulders on the pale red dust feels like being on Mars, but under the Earth sky. What a magnificent view in the darkness of Atacama night, with the southern Milky Way and the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.” Also recorded in the image is the both green and red airglow, a faint natural emission of the Earth upper atmosphere.
