Rio Morning Moonset
Description
As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day when the Sun rose, a nearly full Moon set in this serene seaside vista captured from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This multi-exposure image started at dawn with a 6-minute gap between each exposure (all with a fixed setting). At sunrise hundreds of seabirds fly from their nesting place in the islands near Rio de Janeiro to inland and the city’s seashore. In the foreground, above Atlantic coastline at the famous Ipanema beach, the favela Vidigal nestled below the iconic twin peaks of Morro Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers Hill). Click on the second photo to see the photographer after this successful TWAN-imaging session.

April 23, 2011 at 2:33 amthis photo seems really valuable to us, would you please tell us how you took this one?
May 5, 2011 at 2:29 amIt’s a composite of 8 exposures (every 7 minutes) all with fixed shutter speed, ISO, and aperture, and on a fixed camera, similar to a multi-exppsure by a film camera. The environment in the first 7 exposures were all dark with nearly nothing more than the moon in the images, but in the last one right after the sunlight all the scenery and all the birds are captured.
