Description

From the photographer: “Living in a seaside village, like my hometown, I usually spend a lot of the time in the port and many times when I’m capturing images, I include the sea in my frame; mostly when it comes to Moon photography, especially when it’s a Waning or a Full Moon rising (that’s because the port is facing in the East). This time I tried to capture the waning crescent moon rising behind the volcanic mountain of Methana during dawn. I woke up early in the morning and when I went to the port, the moon was already visible; although it was a bit faint close to the horizon, because of the dusty atmosphere. As it was rising higher in the sky, it was getting brighter having a vibrant orange colour. The nature at this moment of the day was the calmest I’ve ever witnessed. I didn’t hear or see any person, any car, anything; I was listening only to the sounds of nature and then the sound of the fishing boats sailing to the open sea in order to collect their nets.

In the first image, I framed the moon this way, creating a perfect rhombus between the moon, its reflection and the two port’s lighthouses. In the second image, a few minutes after the first one, I captured the shape of a fishing boat sailing through the lighthouses.”
