Moon Setting Over Serravalle Castle

A photo composite of two exposures. From the photographer: “The Serravalle castle stands on the peaks of Cozzo Pizzuto located in the homonymous fief in the territory of Mineo. Diego Barucco tells us: “The original layout of the castle was only a square-based tower which, from the study of historiographical and documentary information, it was possible to trace back to the fourteenth century. the Catalan and Latin factions. The tower had the function of dominating the valley and in particular of controlling the road that, coming from the plain of Catania, passed through Mineo and reached Caltagirone up to the innermost villages. Over the following centuries, the complex it was enlarged with the addition of structures leaning against the main plant, while it was in the nineteenth century that the last changes were made by the Grimaldi family, owner of the structure since the sixteenth century.” The beauty of the castle emerges even more in this image in which it seems to stand out in the sky until it meets and touches a very bright moon. Its light illuminates the glass enclosure that dominates the top of the towers while the first rays of dusk illuminate the entire structure and the rocky spur. One last doubt remains: what is the stone circle placed on the facade? What is its purpose? little mysteries that increase the charm of this wonderful manor.”
