Siberia Eclipse Sunset

As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day The partial solar eclipse of 4 January 2011 as seen from frozen winter landscape of Siberia, at the bank of the Berd River near Novosibirsk. The eclipse was visible from Europe to North Africa, Middle East and central Asia. Here the eclipse is captured near the moment of sunset and close to its maximum phase. Along with offset Sun and Moon, the dimmly lit sky includes an industrial smoke plume and airplane contrail. Click on the second photo to see a wider view from the same location.

What struck me was the length of the plume. So, curiosity had me attempt to see any trace via Google Earth. No there wasn’t anything I could pick up. It then struck me, that I don’t recall seeing any plumes via Google Earth; do they edit them out?
