The Red Planet Comes Out of Occultation
Description
As seen on Astronomy Picture of the Day this telephoto view of early evening twilight above Kansas, shows the young Moon only few degrees above the western horzizon. But this is not a regular crescent Moon shot. It shows moments after Mars occultation by the Moon. The red planet has reappeared in the sky, only minutes before it sets in the horizon. Click on the second photo to the very moment that Mars comes out of the occultation. © Doug Zubenel
