Description

Late on the night of March 14, 2003, the waxing gibbous moon illuminated a farm house and field in Alaska, while an arc of the northern lights -the aurora borealis- illuminated the night sky. Many auroral displays begin with a relatively featureless arc in the northeastern sky; this can eventually swell in size and break up into many different forms and colors.
