The Meteor Crater
Description
Stars of constellations Orion and Taurus above the rim of Meteor Crater in the northern Arizona. Scientifically known as Barringer Carter it is one of the most recognized meteorite impact craters on the Earth. It is about 1200 m in diameter, some 170 m deep, and is surrounded by a rim that rises 45 m above the surrounding plains. The crater was created about 50,000 years ago by a nickel-iron meteorite about 50 meters across. © Wally Pacholka
