Keck Startrails

In this long exposure circumpolar photograph the northern stars trail against one of the largest telescopes on Mauna Kea Observatory. Located near the 4205m summit of Mauna Kea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, it is recognized as one of the world’s premier astronomical research facilities with wide range of telescopes, including some of the largest in the world. The dome in the foreground houses one of the two 10-meter Keck telescopes.
