Meteor Above the Very Large Telescope
Description
A bright Perseid meteor streaks the starry sky above Paranal observatory in Chile. The four 8-meter telescopes of the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) are exploring the cosmos while another two smaller (1.8m diameter mirror) auxiliary telescopes are also operating; making interferometric observations. The domes are lit by the Moon that is setting on the other horizon.
