Description

A timelapse video of the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescopes under the starry sky of the Western Australia. ASKAP comprises 36 radio dishes, each with a diameter of 12 meters, making the telescope sensitive to faint radiation from the Milky Way and giving it the ability to detect very distant galaxies. From the photographer: “The monotonous flatness of the Western Australian outback is interrupted by the tall antennae of SKAP Radio Telescope. The night sky is majestically dark with no man-made lights for as far as eye would see. The dishes are slowly turning following the path of stars. Sounds like stargazer’s haven… Murchison Radio-astronomy observatory is one of the most radio-quiet places in the World and not many people come by. The ASKAP will have a total collecting area of approximately 4,000 square metres.”
