TWAN at the Western Australia Astrofest 2012
Photos by John Goldsmith
Astrofest 2012 attracted over 3500 astronomy enthusiasts in Australia during the event on March 31 in Perth, Western Australia. This year for the first time the Astrofest exhibitions were presented via high definition large screens. Imagea and timelapse videos of the Western Australia and the World were exhibited on 20 HD monitors. This was the second TWAN digital exhibition after the major 6-month display in the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria (details here).
Coordinated by TWAN photographer and Australia coordinator, John Goldsmith, for the Astrofest 2012 a TWAN introductory publication was produced which was widely distributed to The World at Night exhibition visitors.
In addition to TWAN exhibit, fourteen Western Australian astrophotographers were selected for another exhibition, to showcase the best of Western Australian astrophotography, including both telescope images of the deep sky and the Solar System and TWAN-style landscape photos. Some of the images are available to see on this page or you can view the exhibition catalog for the Western Australian astrophotography.
Astrofest is coordinated by the Astronomy WA and included many organizations such as Australian Science Communicators and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), and the University of Western Australia.
