Photo Report: IYA2009 Opening Ceremony and IAU260 in UNESCO
UNESCO headquarters in Paris was the host for two of the most important events of International year of Astronomy 2009. The IYA2009 opening ceremony on January 15-16 brought together a diverse group of astronomers, dignitaries, and students from about 100 countries. Outside the main hall exhibitions from various observatories, space agencies, and commercial entities attracted visitors throughout the event there. The World at Night exhibition displayed January 14 to 24 through the opening event and the IAU 260 symposium on The Role of Astronomy in Society and Culture.
