Big Dipper and the Falling Star

A bright meteor streaks the sky near the seven-star prominent figure of Big Dipper (the famous asterism in constellation Ursa Major). The meteor is captured during the Geminid meteor shower from slopes of Karkas Mountain in central Iran, covered with fresh snow. With its peak activity on December 13/14, Geminids make one of the best meteor showers of the year. The shower is created as planet Earth sweeps through dusty debris from extinct comet 3200 Phaethon.
