Description

From the photographer: “On the evening of the total solar eclipse in Spitsbergen around 21:30 a very impressive aurora borealis was visible. At that time the Sun was shining 9 degrees below the horizon — it was nautical twilight then. The Adventtoppen mountain (786 meter) is illuminated by the Western-Northwestern horizon from the back. The brightness difference of the mountain sides is obvious. The foreground is painted orange by the lights of the nearby Longyearbyen Airport.”
