Starry sky and the Milky Way in the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius above a stark moonlit landscape in Tassili National Park, in the heart of the Sahara desert in southern Algeria. The bright yellow-orange star above the eroded sandstone cliffs is Antares, the alpha star of Scorpius, the Scorpion. Click the star-pattern icon above the image to see a day-light panoramic view of this bizarre location. Prehistoric skygazers surely witnessed a similar sky. In addition to dramatic sandstone formations, the Tassili region is noted for rock paintings and archaeological sites dating to neolithic times. Read the report of TWAN imaging trip to Sahara.
